Objective
The objective of this Design Qualification (DQ) protocol is to ensure that the Inline Heater / Heat Exchanger used in the production of IV Infusions meets the specified requirements and performs effectively in accordance with the User Requirements Specification (URS).
Scope
This protocol applies to the Inline Heater / Heat Exchanger system utilized for heating and cooling bulk solutions in the production area for IV Infusions (LVP/SVP – Bags/Bottles).
Responsibilities
- Validation Team: Responsible for the execution of the DQ protocol and documentation of results.
- Quality Assurance: Responsible for reviewing and approving the DQ protocol and results.
- Production Team: Responsible for providing operational input and ensuring equipment is maintained.
Prerequisites
- Completion of User Requirements Specification (URS).
- Installation and Operational Qualification (IQ/OQ) of the Inline Heater / Heat Exchanger.
- Training of personnel on equipment operation and safety procedures.
Equipment Description
The Inline Heater / Heat Exchanger is a system designed to heat or cool bulk solutions used in the production of IV Infusions. It operates by transferring heat efficiently through a controlled flow of liquid, ensuring that temperature parameters are maintained within specified limits.
Test Plan
| Test ID | Procedure | Acceptance Criteria | Evidence |
|---|---|---|---|
| DQ-01 | Verify temperature control during operation. | Temperature maintained within ±1°C of set point. | Temperature log records. |
| DQ-02 | Evaluate flow rate consistency. | Flow rate within specified limits as per URS. | Flow rate measurement logs. |
| DQ-03 | Assess heat transfer efficiency. | Heat transfer efficiency ≥ 90% as per URS. | Efficiency calculation report. |
Detailed Test Cases
Test Case DQ-01: Temperature Control
Objective: To verify that the Inline Heater maintains the required temperature during operation.
Procedure: Operate the Inline Heater at the specified set point and record the temperature at regular intervals for a defined period.
Acceptance Criteria: The temperature must remain within ±1°C of the set point throughout the test period.
Evidence: Documented temperature log records.
Test Case DQ-02: Flow Rate Consistency
Objective: To ensure that the flow rate of the solution through the Inline Heater is consistent and within specified limits.
Procedure: Measure the flow rate at the start, middle, and end of the operational cycle and compare it to the specified limits.
Acceptance Criteria: Flow rate must be within the limits defined in the URS.
Evidence: Flow rate measurement logs.
Test Case DQ-03: Heat Transfer Efficiency
Objective: To assess the heat transfer efficiency of the Inline Heater.
Procedure: Calculate the heat transfer efficiency using the inlet and outlet temperature readings and flow rate data.
Acceptance Criteria: Heat transfer efficiency must be ≥ 90% as per URS.
Evidence: Efficiency calculation report.
Deviations
Any deviations from the established acceptance criteria must be documented and assessed for impact on the validation process. Appropriate corrective and preventive actions (CAPA) must be implemented as needed.
Approvals
This Design Qualification Protocol must be approved by the Quality Assurance and relevant stakeholders prior to execution.
