Top Pan Balance – Equipment Validation SOP

Equipment Validation Procedure for Top Pan Balance in QC Laboratory

Purpose: This SOP outlines the validation process for the Top Pan Balance used in the QC Laboratory to ensure accurate weighing of bulk samples, which is critical for product quality.

Scope: This procedure applies to the validation of the Top Pan Balance utilized in the QC Lab for weighing bulk samples. It encompasses all validation phases: DQ, IQ, OQ, and PQ.

Definitions:

  • DQ: Design Qualification
  • IQ: Installation Qualification
  • OQ: Operational Qualification
  • PQ: Performance Qualification
  • URS: User Requirements Specification

Roles:

  • Validation Manager: Oversees the validation process.
  • Quality Control Analyst: Executes validation tests and documents results.
  • Maintenance Personnel: Responsible for equipment maintenance and calibration.

Lifecycle Procedure:

  1. Conduct Design Qualification (DQ) based on URS.
  2. Perform Installation Qualification (IQ) to verify installation meets specifications.
  3. Complete Operational Qualification (OQ) to ensure the balance operates within specified limits.
  4. Execute Performance Qualification (PQ) to validate performance under actual operating conditions.
  5. Document all validation activities and results in the validation report.

GDP Controls: All data generated during the validation process must adhere to Good Documentation Practices (GDP). Records must be clear, legible, and traceable.

Acceptance Criteria Governance (URS): The acceptance criteria for the validation of the Top Pan Balance will be based on the specifications outlined in the User Requirements Specification (URS).

Calibration/PM Governance: Calibration and preventive maintenance (PM) must be performed according to the manufacturer’s recommendations and documented in the maintenance log. Calibration is required annually.
