Installation Qualification Protocol for Pin Mill Equipment

Objective: To establish and document the installation qualification of the Pin Mill used for fine milling in the production of solid dosage forms.

Scope: This protocol applies to the installation qualification of the Pin Mill located in the Production/Milling area. It encompasses all aspects necessary to ensure the equipment is installed according to specifications and is ready for operation.

Responsibilities:

  • Validation Team: Responsible for executing the IQ protocol and documenting results.
  • Engineering: Ensure installation meets design specifications.
  • Quality Assurance: Review and approve the IQ protocol and results.

Prerequisites:

  • Completion of equipment installation.
  • Availability of relevant documentation (URS, installation manuals, etc.).
  • Training of personnel involved in the qualification process.

Equipment Description:

The Pin Mill is designed for fine milling of solid dosage forms. It operates by utilizing high-speed rotating discs to reduce particle size, ensuring uniformity and quality of the final product. Key critical parameters include disc speed, output particle size distribution (PSD), and temperature.

Test ID Procedure Acceptance Criteria Evidence
IQ-01 Verify installation against URS specifications. All components installed as per URS. Installation checklist signed off.
IQ-02 Check electrical connections and grounding. All connections secure and compliant. Electrical inspection report.
IQ-03 Measure disc speed output. Disc speed within specified range. Calibration report.
IQ-04 Measure output PSD. PSD meets specifications. PSD analysis report.
IQ-05 Monitor temperature during operation. Temperature within acceptable limits. Temperature log.

Detailed Test Cases:

  • Test Case IQ-01: Confirm installation as per URS by cross-referencing each component against the installation checklist.
  • Test Case IQ-02: Conduct an electrical inspection to ensure all connections are secure and compliant with safety standards.
  • Test Case IQ-03: Utilize a tachometer to measure disc speed; verify against specified operational limits.
  • Test Case IQ-04: Collect samples and analyze particle size distribution using a laser diffraction method; compare results to specifications.
  • Test Case IQ-05: Use a digital thermometer to monitor and log temperature during operation to ensure it remains within defined limits.

Deviations: Any deviations from the acceptance criteria must be documented and investigated. A deviation report must be completed and approved by the Quality Assurance team.
