Performance Qualification Protocol for Analytical Balance in QC Laboratory

Objective: To validate the performance of the Analytical Balance in the QC Laboratory to ensure accurate weighing of samples and standards.

Scope: This protocol applies to the Analytical Balance used in the QC Laboratory for weighing applications, impacting product quality directly.

Responsibilities:

  • Validation Team: Execute the protocol and document results.
  • Quality Assurance: Review and approve the protocol and results.
  • Laboratory Personnel: Operate the Analytical Balance as per SOPs.

Prerequisites:

  • Completion of Installation Qualification (IQ).
  • Calibration of the Analytical Balance as per the manufacturer’s specifications.
  • Training of personnel on the use of the Analytical Balance.

Equipment Description:

The Analytical Balance is a precision instrument designed for accurate weighing of samples and standards in the QC Lab. It features high sensitivity and is equipped with an audit trail function to ensure data integrity.

Test ID Procedure Acceptance Criteria Evidence
PQ-AB-01 Verify accuracy using calibrated weights. Weight measurements must be within ±0.001g of the true value. Calibration report and weight measurement records.
PQ-AB-02 Assess repeatability by weighing the same sample multiple times. Standard deviation must not exceed 0.002g. Data from repeatability tests.
PQ-AB-03 Evaluate linearity across the operating range. Linearity must be within ±0.002g across specified weights. Linearity test results.
PQ-AB-04 Check for drift over time. No drift greater than ±0.001g over a 24-hour period. Drift test results.
PQ-AB-05 Audit trail verification. All entries must be logged and retrievable. Audit trail report.

Detailed Test Cases:

  • Test Case 1: Verify accuracy using calibrated weights. Weigh a series of calibrated weights and record the measurements. Compare against the true values.
  • Test Case 2: Assess repeatability by weighing the same sample 10 times and calculating the standard deviation.
  • Test Case 3: Evaluate linearity by weighing different weights across the balance’s range and plotting the results.
  • Test Case 4: Monitor drift by weighing a standard weight at intervals over 24 hours.
  • Test Case 5: Review the audit trail for completeness and accuracy, ensuring all actions are logged.

Deviations: Any deviations from the acceptance criteria must be documented and investigated. A root cause analysis should be performed, and corrective actions should be implemented.
