HMI System (Human Machine Interface) – Equipment Validation SOP

Standard Operating Procedure for the Validation of HMI Systems in Manufacturing

Purpose: To ensure the HMI System used in production is validated to meet regulatory requirements and operational standards.

Scope: This SOP applies to the validation of the HMI System utilized in manufacturing automation within the production area.

Definitions:

  • HMI System: Human Machine Interface used for operator control of manufacturing equipment.
  • Validation: Establishing documented evidence that a system consistently produces results meeting predetermined specifications.
  • Criticality: The importance of the system in ensuring product quality and compliance.

Roles:

  • Validation Team: Responsible for the execution of the validation process.
  • Quality Assurance: Ensures compliance with regulatory standards and internal policies.
  • IT Support: Provides technical assistance and ensures system integrity.

Lifecycle Procedure:

  1. Design Qualification (DQ): Document requirements and specifications for the HMI System.
  2. Installation Qualification (IQ): Verify that the system is installed according to specifications.
  3. Operational Qualification (OQ): Ensure the system operates as intended within defined parameters.
  4. Performance Qualification (PQ): Validate the system’s performance in the production environment.

GDP Controls: All documentation must adhere to Good Documentation Practices, ensuring accuracy, clarity, and traceability.

Acceptance Criteria Governance: Acceptance criteria will be defined in the User Requirements Specification (URS) and must comply with Annex 11 and 21 CFR Part 11 regulations.

Calibration/PM Governance: The HMI System shall undergo routine calibration and preventive maintenance as per the established schedule to ensure ongoing compliance and performance.
