Objective
The objective of this Performance Qualification (PQ) protocol is to verify that the Inline Heater / Heat Exchanger operates consistently and effectively within specified limits for the heat/cool bulk solution used in IV infusions.
Scope
This protocol applies to the Inline Heater / Heat Exchanger used in the production area for IV infusions (LVP/SVP – Bags/Bottles). It covers the validation of the equipment’s performance in terms of temperature flow and heat transfer efficiency.
Responsibilities
- Validation Team: Responsible for executing the PQ protocol and documenting results.
- Quality Assurance: Responsible for reviewing and approving the PQ documentation.
- Production Personnel: Responsible for providing access to the equipment and assisting with the validation activities.
Prerequisites
- Completion of Installation Qualification (IQ) and Operational Qualification (OQ).
- Availability of necessary calibration and validation equipment.
- Training of personnel on the use of the Inline Heater / Heat Exchanger.
Equipment Description
The Inline Heater / Heat Exchanger is designed to heat or cool bulk solutions for IV infusions. It operates by transferring heat between a heating medium and the solution, ensuring precise temperature control and uniformity.
Test Plan
| Test ID | Procedure | Acceptance | Evidence |
|---|---|---|---|
| PQ-001 | Measure temperature at inlet and outlet during operation. | Temperature difference must meet URS requirements. | Temperature logs, calibration certificates. |
| PQ-002 | Evaluate flow rate and heat transfer efficiency. | Flow rate and efficiency must meet URS requirements. | Flow rate measurements, efficiency calculations. |
Detailed Test Cases
Test Case 1: Temperature Measurement
Procedure: Measure the temperature at the inlet and outlet of the Inline Heater / Heat Exchanger while operating at specified flow rates.
Acceptance Criteria: The temperature difference should align with the User Requirement Specification (URS).
Evidence: Documented temperature logs and calibration certificates.
Test Case 2: Flow Rate and Efficiency Evaluation
Procedure: Assess the flow rate and calculate the heat transfer efficiency of the Inline Heater / Heat Exchanger.
Acceptance Criteria: Flow rate and efficiency must meet URS requirements.
Evidence: Flow rate measurements and efficiency calculation reports.
Deviations
Any deviations from the established acceptance criteria must be documented and investigated. A corrective action plan should be developed to address any non-conformances.
Approvals
This protocol must be approved by the Quality Assurance department and relevant stakeholders prior to execution.
