Installation Qualification Protocol for Analytical Weighing Balance

Meta Description: This document outlines the Installation Qualification (IQ) protocol for the Analytical Weighing Balance used in Solid Dosage Form equipment validation, covering objectives, scope, responsibilities, and test plans.

Tags: Equipment Validation, Installation Qualification, Weighing Balance, Pharmaceutical, OSD

Objective

The objective of this Installation Qualification (IQ) protocol is to ensure that the Analytical Weighing Balance is installed correctly and operates as intended in the Production/Dispensing area for weighing raw materials and in-process controls (IPC).

Scope

This protocol applies to the Analytical Weighing Balance used in the Solid Dosage Form (OSD) manufacturing process. It covers the verification of critical parameters including accuracy, repeatability, and linearity.

Responsibilities

  • Validation Team: Prepare, execute, and document the IQ protocol.
  • Quality Assurance: Review and approve the IQ protocol and results.
  • Maintenance Team: Ensure the balance is maintained and calibrated before IQ execution.

Prerequisites

  • Installation of the Analytical Weighing Balance is complete.
  • Calibration of the balance is up to date as per the Calibration SOP.
  • All personnel involved are trained on the operation of the balance.

Equipment Description

The Analytical Weighing Balance is a precision instrument used for weighing raw materials and in-process controls in the production of solid dosage forms. It is designed to provide high accuracy and repeatability in measurements.

Test Plan

Test ID Procedure Acceptance Criteria Evidence
IQ-01 Verify installation location and environmental conditions. Installation complies with URS requirements. Installation checklist.
IQ-02 Check electrical connections and power supply. Power supply meets specifications. Electrical inspection report.
IQ-03 Perform calibration check using certified weights. Accuracy within ±0.01g. Calibration report.
IQ-04 Conduct repeatability test. Standard deviation < 0.005g. Test results summary.
IQ-05 Check linearity across the range. Linearity within ±0.01g. Linearity test report.

Detailed Test Cases

Test Case IQ-01: Installation Verification

Verify that the Analytical Weighing Balance is installed in the designated area with appropriate environmental controls (temperature, humidity). Document any deviations.

Test Case IQ-02: Electrical Connections

Check that all electrical connections are secure and that the power supply is stable. Any discrepancies should be reported and resolved.

Test Case IQ-03: Calibration Check

Use certified weights to perform a calibration check. Record measurements and ensure they meet the acceptance criteria outlined in the URS SOP Calibration.

Test Case IQ-04: Repeatability Test

Perform multiple weighings of the same standard weight to assess repeatability. Calculate the standard deviation and ensure it is within the acceptance criteria.

Test Case IQ-05: Linearity Test

Conduct a linearity test by weighing a series of standard weights across the balance’s operational range. Document the results and verify compliance with acceptance criteria.

Deviations

Any deviations from the acceptance criteria must be documented and investigated. A corrective action plan should be developed to address any issues identified during the IQ process.

Approvals

All test results and deviations must be reviewed and approved by the Quality Assurance team before the Analytical Weighing Balance can be deemed qualified for use in production.
